Big Strides in Sustainability for Footwear Packaging

Helly Hansen was looking for a totally new packaging solution: new sustainable footwear packaging (both in terms of material quality and sourcing), a new design look to elevate the branding, and the reduction of the box sizes.

The challenge

The footwear line consisted of 35 different shoe styles with 18 different boxes. The existing packaging was supplied by the different product factories in Asia and therefore was lacking consistency in print, colours and material quality.

The solution

A packaging audit was completed evaluating the product fit to packaging, material specifications and flow through the supply chain. The structure of the box changed to reduce the corrugated blank size, as well as specifying a different board combination, both yielding sustainability gains for the customer.

A carton suite was created to maximize transport efficiency. Aesthetically, the lid of the box was angled to match branding elements, allowing for improved box graphics that Trillora created for the brand.
